American Library Association Reports and Self-Studies, 1979-2002

This sub-series contains ALA files including memorandum, annual reports, financial data, resumes, and self-studies. Also included are GLISP budget and enrollment files and accreditation documents. Of note are presentation documents with details about the SILS program, alumni, curriculum, administration, faculty, and the facilities.

Institutional History

This subseries consists of a type-written history of Pratt Institute Library School, and has handwritten notes and editing throughout. This is a small glimpse into the early history of the school.

Administrative Correspondence, 1968-1990

This subseries contains the correspondence of the general administration (including directors) with other professional organizations or individuals. These include correspondence regarding course development, computers, the Pratt Institute newsletter, scheduling committees, Advisory Board of Visitors, Westchester Advisory Council, correspondence with Rhoda Garoogian, and more.

Addresses to Faculty

This subseries consists of typescript speeches addressed to faculty. These speeches report on the improvements and successes of the Library school, the school's importance to the Institute, and on the professional status of graduated students.

Miscellaneous Administrative Documents, 1972-1991

This subseries consists of records created for administrative purposes. Included is correspondence, a 1985 New York Library Association conference report, a list of 1988 Pratt library school graduates, documentation of 1981 departmental computer purchase, and miscellaneous administrative documents

This collection contains correspondence, Dean's council meeting minutes, curriculum, budgeting, and miscellaneous documents created during the tenure of S. Michael Malinconico, the Dean of the School of Information from 1987-1988.

Cataloging Courses

This subseries is comprised of general information of objectives of courses in cataloging and classifications, as well as a hand-written lesson plan.

Digital Photographic Materials, circa 1980-2011

This sub-series includes digital photographs retrieved from 1 Zip disc and 4 CD-ROMs accessioned from the office of Vinette Thomas. The bulk of photographs date from 2003 to 2008 and include images of School of Information students, faculty, and administration at lectures and parties. Additional photos show staff probably after 1980 and before 2004. File names have been maintained from original file names used on digital media carriers.

Pratt Institute School of Information

Institutional Reports, 1968-2001

This sub-series includes statistical reports on faculty, students, curriculum, income and expenditures, and continuing professional education. Included and of note are a questionnaire concerning the statistical report from 2001 and a 1984 visiting team report on the school.

American Library Association Reports and Self-Studies, 1923

This subseries includes reports, reviews, presentations, and self-studies by and for the Association of American Library School, later renamed the American Library Association. These reports and reviews were typically compiled for the Committee on Accreditation, but some self-studies were written to show the school's improvement during periods of conditional accreditation.

Miscellaneous Reports, 1983-1985

This sub-series consists of reports on various matters including a five-year planning report, a self-study, and a file on the 1985 American Council on Education.

Administrative Correspondence, 1897-1905

This subseries contains the correspondence of the general administration (including directors) with other professional organizations or individuals. These include a letter to Miss Rathbone regarding summer library assistant positions, a letter from a secretary to the Class of 1895, and a note regarding costs to the school for printing versus mimeographing.

Student Affairs, 1969-1975

The documents in this subseries highlight the ways in which the administration managed and interacted with students. Documents in this subseries include records related to student unrest from 1969 and graduates not attending commencement in 1975.

Miscellaneous Administrative Documents

This subseries consists of small sheets of notes about lectures and school programming from 1911-1912. Also included is a University of the State of New York Library Examination, which is an interesting look into the knowledge Library students were expected to have.
